Graduate Diploma of Creative Technologies
This graduate-level qualification offers a unique and very valuable collaborative partnership with creative technology companies where the student works with the company on specific R&D or production projects over the 32 weeks of the programme while being guided by their Industry Mentor.
Globally, creative technologies companies are looking for hot talent to work with them on selected projects to build the breadth of their knowledge and capability that will open doors to new business opportunities. As these projects are often not immediately revenue-generating, many companies, particularly SMEs, are not in a position to complete the necessary R&D or production groundwork that would enable them to develop the knowledge and capacity, resulting in lost opportunities.This graduate-level qualification offers a unique and very valuable collaborative partnership with creative technology companies where the student works with the company on specific R&D or production projects over the 32 weeks of the programme while being guided by their Industry Mentor.
Parallel to this, top graduates are looking to work with innovative companies in this sector on interesting and challenging projects that have the potential to influence their career prospects and build their value to industry. They understand that their worth is best demonstrated while working immersed in the company environment and alongside capable industry people but without previous experience of working in this industry at this level, the opportunities to do this are not usually available. Media Design School's Graduate Diploma of Creative Technologies (NZQA Level 7) brings these two partners together. It offers significant opportunities and benefits to both the company and to the graduate student
This is a very flexible programme that is able to accommodate a wide range of industry projects including the digital design, creative technologies, and emerging and new fields of this sector. Applicants are first accessed as to their ability to work at graduate level and are then selected by the company for the project(s) offered. Industry Partner Companies involved can range from recent start-ups to international corporates. Selected project briefs and specifications are provided by the various industry partners of Media Design School. The scope of the project(s) is not limited but may include areas such as the development of new tools, the testing and integration of applications into the production pipeline, investigative work or proto-type productions, the development of creative content to meet a specific need, or the development of a new medium for existing content, software or data. Students Students generally have a degree or specialist high-level qualification in the area of the project scope and must initially meet the academic pre-requisites. Those who are successful, are then interviewed by the company, and if accepted by the company they then can register on the qualification.
Successful applicants studying on this programme have an Academic and Industry Mentor who monitor and guide their work. They are generally located at the premises of the company partner, reporting regularly to the school.
Often students working with industry mentors are offered a position within the same company. Those interested in applying for this qualification to work in collaboration with an industry partner on projects should contact the school and lodge their interest. Important - New Zealand domestic applicants may be eligible for special Government Fellowship Grant during their studies. Information is available at time of interview with availability depending on the project and the company partner. Individual Projects The qualification also has an individual projects stream Students with a specific interest or research proposal are able to undertake their studies in conjunction with an assigned industry mentor and an academic coach. Applicants may put forward research and development proposals crossing a range of sectors including (for example) a new form of digital interaction, the development of software plug-ins, experimental art-forms or new technology prototype creation.
Independent projects that are accepted may be either off or on site depending on the resources, communication and support required. All students have access to an academic mentor from Media Design School throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Commencement dates of this qualification is determined by the offer of industry projects and the date chosen once the selection process has been completed. Interested graduates may register their interest and area of skills and knowledge to Media Design School so the school can forward details of appropriate projects.
